Greetings From Your President

Happy September! Time to dust off the boots and oil up your BB guns, birds are in season! Who has the hot spot for some Doves this year? Always fun to hunt in shorts and a T-shirt.

I want to thank everyone who attended the Wildlife Federation annual meeting events. We had a great time touring the new shooting range with our expert guide Mr. Kanta from the GFP. This facility is spectacularly large and world class. I am really looking forward to partaking in getting to use this place. This will really be a place to be proud of for all South Dakotans.

The banquet on Saturday was very nicely run by Dana Rodgers from the Wildlife Federation. There was great food and lots of great auction and raffle Items. I think everyone went home a winner. It was nice to see some of our local celebrities get some well deserved conservation awards. These folks have been doing all sorts of great work for the community and our resources. Hans Stephenson, Lacy Elrod, and Christian Hagen.  We Thank you for your service to the cause.

We really need everyone to get their opinions & comments in on the Black Hills Turkey unlimited non-resident tag proposal currently on the commission docket. The BHSC will be taking a stand of fewer tags than the recommended by the GFP Staff. I will be testifying on Thursday and encourage everyone to attend.

A big thanks to all those who attended the SDWF annual gatherings.   We toured the gun range north of town and I all can is wow, it is HUGE.    Lots of work and millions of dollars away from being completed but it most certainly will be one of the top ranges in the nation.   Thank you John Kanta for the tour.    The SDWF board had a nice meeting on sat with Kevin Robling and our banquet was a success.   A big congrats to our local award winners and thank you to all the BHSC members who showed up for the events

This month we will be talking  about the upcoming GFP commission meeting and the big issue of unlimited non-resident turkey tags in the Black Hills.    Out meeting is Tuesday Sept 3rd 11:45 am, the commission public input time is 1pm at the Outdoor Campus in Rapid City Thursday, Sept 5th.   PLEASE attend both meetings if possible.   The commission needs to see sportsmen in the audience and at the testimony table.

We also will have few members talk about their hunts to Africa this summer.  Always nice to get a few hunting stories in.

We have put a lot of time into the web page also. If anyone has input or would like us to add to our webpage please email us at blackhillssportsmenclub@gmail.com
