Greetings From Your President
Hey Everyone, After a long, dry stretch, it’s great to finally see some real rain around the Black Hills. Everything’s greening up nicely, hopefully this keeps up. Get out there and enjoy some spring weather. Speaking of being out there—how’s everyone’s turkey season going? With the new nonresident tag limits in place for the Black Hills, it sure feels like there’s a little less pressure this spring. Curious to hear what you’re seeing out there. It’s that time again for your annual Elk license application donations…. now is the time to get your applications in. The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Department has several application deadlines coming up fast, so don’t wait until the last minute. Here are some key dates to keep on your radar:
- Elk (Black Hills, Prairie, Custer State Park): Applications are open now and close on May 20, 2025, at 8 a.m. CDT.
- Bighorn Sheep: Applications also close on May 20, 2025, at 8 a.m. CDT.
If you haven’t renewed your Black Hills Sportsmen Club membership yet, now’s a great time to do so. A strong membership base helps us advocate for hunters and anglers across the region. Renewing is easy—just visit https://blackhillssportsmenclub.com. And if you know someone who shares our passion for the outdoors, invite them to join as well. That’s all for now. Enjoy the spring weather, good luck filling those turkey tags, and get those applications in. See you at the next luncheon!

WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW INPUT FROM OUR MEMBERS!!
A big thanks to John Kanta for coming to visit with the club last month Always packed full of good information and much appreciated for being so open with our club. Our speaker this week will be past commissioner, Gary Jensen and retired Conservation Officer Bill Eastman. They both work with the South Dakota Ag Land Trust. I have no clue what that is but we will find out soon.
Please mark your calendar for June 14th. The BHSC will be sponsoring donuts and coffee in the morning and a BBQ at noon for the annual Rapid Creek cleanup. This is a big, fun day. In the afternoon the BH FlyFishers will be holding their one fly tournament and party with lots of giveaways at Lost Cabin after the event. PLEASE we need helpers that day. I have a sign up list at the next meeting or just contact me and I will assign you a job. Thanks much
PS Get your Elk applications in.....
