Greetings From Your President
Spring might be here, but Mother Nature isn't ready to let us off easy just yet. If you haven't checked the forecast, we've got a solid storm rolling into the Black Hills this weekend. They're calling for a good amount of snow, so if you were thinking about getting out to scout for turkey season, you might want to hold off or bring the snowshoes. Typical South Dakota-one day it's 70 degrees, the next we're digging out. Speaking of turkey season, here are the dates you need to know: . Prairie Units: April 12 - May 31, 2025 . Black Hills: April 26 - May 31, 2025 . Custer State Park: April 26 - May 18, 2025 There should be a few less people out this year in the Black Hills as the non-resident tag limits are now in effect. Should be a great year to get back into the game!
On the club side of things, if you haven't renewed your membership yet, now's the time. A strong membership means a stronger voice for sportsmen in the Black Hills. It's easy to renew at https://blackhillssportsmenclub.com. Bring a friend while you're at it.
We're also looking for a few new board members. If you're tired of just sitting back and watching things happen, step up and help make a difference. Let me or Jeff Olson know if you're interested.
That's it for now. Stay warm, get your gear ready, and good luck this season.
See you at the luncheon.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW INPUT FROM OUR MEMBERS!!
This month we will have John Kanta from the GFP as our speaker. We are fortunate to get him to attend our meetings.. He is man in the know. We will get an update on the shooting range and maybe we will visit about elk. The floor will be open to anything but we will follow up on the Guide and Outfitters licensing and the expensive bounty program.
A big thanks to our newest board member, Dave Stroh. He presented with some great stories. Any one interested in giving a membership spotlight or has an idea for a program, please contact me.

Legislative Update We had 21 bills we were monitoring this session. I was a tough year considering we had one bill last year. I will not list them all, just the big ones that took some work. SB 79 The bill allows pedal assist e-bikes on the Mickelson Trail. Has passed both houses SB 144 Amended to require the GFP to get legislative approval for any expenditures over 2.5 million. Cleared Sen and house ag, to the house floor SB 153 Required that GFP budget be approved by the general appropriations bill Was Tabled in Sen Appropriations HB 1236 Increase the safety zone to a quarter of a mile. This bill traveled far before it died on the senate floor. It took some time for the sportsmen to respond. HB 1188 Was amended from unlimited waterfowl licenses for non-res active military to 100 licenses. This bill also went far before amended at to the gov to sign HB 1215 Required the GFP commission to license guide and outfitters. The Govs office killed this bill in committee. Was not given a fair hearing. Our club, the SDWF and other conservation groups will keep pursuing this issue. HB 1262 This would have done away with the Nest Predator Bounty program. This bill was also killed by the Gov's office in committee. Again, no real hearing in committee. We will continue to ask the GPF for data and results on this big expenditure.
We have put a lot of time into the web page also. If anyone has input or would like us to add to our webpage please email us at blackhillssportsmenclub@gmail.com
