Greetings From Your President

Well, draw results are in… and no surprise, I struck out on elk and sheep tags again this year. I know I’m not the only one—seems like the odds just keep getting longer. If you managed to pull a tag, congratulations! The rest of us will just have to keep donating and dreaming.

The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks has formed a new Elk Stakeholder Group to take a hard look at the current elk management system. The idea is to bring together a variety of voices—landowners, hunters, conservation folks—to help shape the future of elk hunting in our state. Jeff Olson will be representing the Black Hills Sportsmen Club in that group. Jeff’s got the experience and common sense to be a solid voice at the table, and we’re looking forward to seeing what comes out of the discussions.

If you’ve got thoughts about elk hunting—access, populations, tag distribution, you name it—now’s a good time to speak up. We’ll make sure Jeff hears from our members before he heads into those meetings.

Also—how about this rain? The hills are green, the streams are flowing, and I’ve been hearing reports of some really nice fish being caught throughout the Black Hills lately. Has anyone been out fishing? What’s biting, and where? Send in your stories—always good to hear how everyone is doing on the water.

If you haven’t renewed your membership yet, jump on it. It only takes a minute at https://blackhillssportsmenclub.com, and it helps us keep pushing on these important issues. As always, bring a buddy in too—we’re stronger with more of us involved.

See you at the next luncheon

WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW INPUT FROM OUR MEMBERS!!

It was great to see two old friends of the GFP at our meeting last month.  Bill Eastman was one of the great Conservation Officers in West River and glad to see he is still carrying on his passion with preserving our important resources.   Tony Leif was a huge part of the GFP history and I worked with him closely for many years.   Protecting our farms and ranches from development is a worthy deed.

Our speaker this month will be the full time director of our new, fancy gun range north of town,  Mike Kuzara.  Please attend and see what we can do to help with this great project.

Elk draws will be done by next week.   I hope someone gets lucky in our club...

~ Jeff Olson, Treasurer ~

We have put a lot of time into the web page also. If anyone has input or would like us to add to our webpage please email us at blackhillssportsmenclub@gmail.com
