Greetings From Your President
Well I was hoping for a little cool down in the weather but as most of you
probably have noticed we are still pushing 90s. Im not elk hunting this year
but I'm guessing that it is having an impact on the guys in field? I have
seen quite a few nice Bulls taken through various groups but I have not see
anything from our membership? Send us some pictures of those elk!
Pheasant season opener is for residents is October 12th and the full opener
is Oct 19th. Anyone doing or going somewhere different this year or are all
the traditions still on the table? I know where I will be..
I want to thank everyone would testified and wrote letters to the commission
regarding the unlimited Black Hills Turkey tag proposal. The Commission
voted to put a limit of 2,250 non-resident tags which is an improvement from
the current unlimited allocation. The club was pushing for the allocation to
be around 1000 tags which gives lots of non-resident opportunity but should
open the door to resident hunters with a lower amount of pressure to the
flock. We had several members testify in person and I think our thoughts and
concerns were taken into consideration. I believe we will revisit this
discussion if we can see what kind of impact this decision will unveil.
We have a couple really great Luncheon presentations coming up.
Hope to see everyone there.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW INPUT FROM OUR MEMBERS!!
Our speaker will be Trenton Haffely from the GFP this month. We are lucky enough to hear from him every year at this time to get updates of the status of big game in Western SD.
Trenton is the big game biologist in Region One and always brings us some good info. Please attend.
The big issue currently is the proposed increases in all fees across the board by the Game Fish and Parks. This has not happened in a very long time and we feel it is good move. This will help all aspects of fish, wildlife and park management. Kevin Robling and staff will be at our Nov meeting to discuss this in more detail. Tom Kirschenman has also offered to do a zoom meeting for our board if we have any questions.. It appears all conservation groups and the commission will support the fee increases. It will be at the rules interim review committee that our input will be most valuable. Please let me know if anyone as any questions or issues with the GFP proposal.
I went grouse hunting in 35 mph wind on Sat. Guess that does not work all the well. Dove hunting the night before was fun and my dog work was perfect and I shot 100%.......
Annual clean out your freezer food drive
I am a month late but I will be running a clean out your freezer food drive in October this season. It is pretty simple, call me at 605-393-5225 and I will arrange a time to come to you or direct you where to take your frozen items. Pantries in Rapid City are in dire need of food. The hunger crisis is the highest it has ever been. Please consider a donation. The pantries will take anything....
