Its May already! Time to get your big game tags applied for. (Just don't
apply for the Custer state park elk tag I heard they already decided that
was going to me this year.)
The GFP Commission meeting is May 6-7 please try to attend. Small Game &
Deer Seasons are to be finalized always one of the more important meetings
of the year.
We are finalizing our membership list for the year and need to get the few
stragglers out there signed up and dues paid! You know who you are!!
Hope everyone has a nice wet spring, we could use it.
-SEND A NEWSLETTER PIECE/STORY AND PICTURE TO US-
Seems like just yesterday we put out our last newsletter. Not much to report. Get you applications in for elk, sheep and mountain goat. I had preference and drew my special buck but most my hunting buddies did not. They also will not have preference in the WR draw so I am a little nervous for those who many not draw this year. It appears the new system works for some but not if your preference is West River Prairie hunting. I am on South Dakota Wildlife Federation deer hunting working group and we are working better habitat and access and hope to have some ideas for the Game Fish and Parks.
We are two months away from having our first in person meeting back at the Rushmore Inn and Suites. I am excited to note that our speaker on July 6th will be Kevin Robling, the new Secretary of the Game Fish and Parks. Don't forget to mark this day on your calendars!
I am looking forward to hearing from the department in person again on many issues. We also will be organizing a few more events including a fun shoot, free pizza gathering and the annual hunt film tour should be back on line at the Elks in October.
Please pay you dues if you have not done it yet this year.

“But love of the wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need – if only we had eyes to see.” – Edward Abbey
