Greetings From Your President
The club has been busy with last minute legislative work and are gearing up to begin our monthly luncheons in July, I hope to see you all there.
As we turn the page on another winter, we are instantly reminded of how important those snow accumulations really are to our area. We enter Spring extremely dry and fire ready as we all have experienced in the last few days here in Western South Dakota. I hope everyone that was affected by the recent fires in the Black Hills area is safe and well.
We have a few work groups that the club is currently participating in and working hard to promote our agenda. Currently I am sitting on a working group regarding the OHV trail system in the Black Hills. We had a large group with several stakeholders attending. There are a lot of different angles on this topic and I encourage you to send me any input you may personally have on the topic; everything is being discussed from expansion to lock down regulation! Obviously this is in the early stages of its mission, but I would be happy to relay any input from the club.
April is good month; big game applications are available soon!!
Please hop onto our website and renew your club membership, it has been hard to bug you guys in person since we don’t get to see much of anyone, but get renewed so I don’t have to bug you at the luncheon in July!

HUNTING FILM TOUR:
Congrats to the winners on the drawing for those who signed up for the Hunting Film Tour! Those who received gift certificates for Farm and Fleet were Paul Vinatieri, Doug Theel, and Brian Barnes. Thank you for being active members of our club. The odds were not too bad. I believe 13 members watched the films. We have about 40 members renewed out of a high of 150 members a few years back. A lot of you receiving this email have not been a member for a few years. Please consider rejoining the club and some of you have never been members but watched the film tour. Go to our website: https://blackhillssportsmenclub.com/ for more information on all of the great things we do for the hunting and fishing community.
UPDATES:
We have decided that we will start our noon lunch meeting again in July! We meet the first Tuesday of every month, so July 6th will be the magic day. We will have a great program and I am very much looking forward to it. There will be few newsletters before that happens.

HABITAT STAMP:
The GFP released a list of projects completed or about to be completed with the habitat stamp money; 42 projects in all and only 3 were west of the river. This is a problem and something our club and other conservation groups are working on. These projects were terrestrial. It is not very clear where the aquatic habitat money is being spent. One thing is for sure, while we supported this stamp (and still do) many have considered it an expensive "tax" on sportsmen. It needs to be made very clear on the how's, why's, and where the money is going and how it is benefitting all of us in South Dakota.
